The LAAR project is an Erasmus+ strategic partnership for vocational education and training. It will investigate over a two year period from fall 2017 to fall 2019 the principles and approaches for effective Learning Analytics in Augmented Reality learning applications for professional education.
The science and study of Learning Analytics supports the measurement, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts for purposes of understanding and optimizing learning and the environments in which it occurs (cf. LA mission statement from the inaugural International Conference on Learning Analytics and Knowledge from 2011).
In this project, we aim to connect such existing Learning Analytics approaches and tools to the novel area of mixed and augmented reality-based learning applications in order to help develop more effective (formative) assessment tools and approaches for real- and virtual world training. Such Learning Analytics will enable both learners and teachers to give, receive, and understand feedback about own real-world learning behaviour (and underlying competence), thereby motivating and facilitating the development of reflective capabilities.
The project aims to create new tools for work-based learning and training in form of Augmented Reality training and assessment applications and connect them to learning analytics tracking, computation, and presentation facilities: LAAR will integrate elements of Augmented Reality, Learning Analytics, and gamification with aspects of Learning Semantics. The project will help introduce innovation from these individual fields in synergy to the area of professional learning. LAAR will develop and customise existing prototypes for training and qualification and test them in realistic settings related to event and stage technology, facility management, safety and security, and building and construction.
