With over 30,000 people employed across Oxfordshire and over £1.4bn contributed to the local economy, the Creative Industries are one of the five strategic areas in Oxford’s local economic plan (see event page at oxLEP). In partnership with oxLEP, Creative England, Creative Industries Federation, Arts Council England, and the Digital Catapult, Oxford Brookes University hosted on Thursday, June 27, 2019, the Oxfordshire Creative Industries Showcase 2019.
The Performance Augmentation Lab was asked to showcase work, and contributed with ATLAS a mixed reality artwork, exhibiting the freshly framed map of Oxford and its digital twin to spread the virtual map over the physical surfaces of the exhibition space in Sir Kenneth Wheare Hall with the help of Spatial Mapping and Smart Glasses.
The showcase demonstrates how the labs technologies can be deployed to interact – in real time – with the surrounding to deliver an engaging experience. The ATLAS artwork was originally developed by artist Yann Deval and his partner Marie-Ghislaine Losseau as part of a S+T+ARTS residency, matching artists with EU H2020 funded science and technology projects.
